The general manager of the Charlotte Cougars has signed off on a trade for San Francisco's 22-year old minor league first baseman José González and 23-year old minor league left fielder Bill Goodman. To complete the deal, the Cougars will send 27-year old reliever Pedro De La Cruze to the Gold Rush.
During his career De La Cruze has compiled a 7-2 mark, pitched in 74 games, been credited with no saves and posted a 4.13 ERA. He has 74 strikeouts in 100.1 innings pitched.

It was a pay-raising season for San Francisco's left fielder. Regardless of where Doug Driscoll signs on next year, this 2177 Western Circuit Most Valuable Player Award will be considered a marquee pickup.
He excelled with 187 hits, 37 doubles, 11 triples, 37 home runs and 106 RBIs while compiling a .315 batting average.

"This is why we play the game," commented Lowcountry's manager after his club captured their 1st World Series crown by whipping the San Francisco Gold Rush 3-2 today at Ravenel Stadium.
"Baseball don't get any better than this."
The Gators were victorious 4-2 in the series after completing the regular season 104-58 and finishing in first place in the Eastern Circuit Southeastern Division.
The losing manager had his say, too, telling reporters, "Despite the loss, this year has been a pretty good story, a doggone good story. I'm proud of my guys. We had great veteran leadership and we had players that never gave up -- no quit in us at all. And it got us here. And I'm proud of that. I think you might see the Gold Rush back here soon."
